Kim belongs to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), which recently announced the appointment of its new president.

On May 24, Anita Everett, MD, began her term as president of the APA as the organization’s Annual Meeting in San Diego came to a close. The current chief medical officer of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Dr. Everett is a former division director of Johns Hopkins Community and General Psychiatry at the Bayview Campus. She also served as an associate professor with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and is the former president of the Maryland Psychiatric Society and the American Association of Community Psychiatrists.

Dr. Everett has held positions with the APA, such as trustee-at-large for its Board of Trustees, and chair of the APA Task Force on Healthcare Reform in 2015. As president, she plans to prioritize access to psychiatric care for all Americans through increased use of telepsychiatry. Further, she advocates for physician wellness and evidence-based care for first-episode psychosis. She will serve a one-year term, after which Altha Stewart, MD, will take over as president.
