The American Psychiatric Association (APA), the world’s leading organization for psychiatric professionals, announced in early 2017 that it would be collaborating with the National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC) on PsychPRO.

PsychPRO (Psychiatric Patient Registry Online) was launched by the APA during fall 2016. A national mental health registry, it was designed to help psychiatrists meet quality reporting requirements while providing high-quality healthcare to patients. The registry also provides patients with a safe way of sending their clinicians information and allows psychiatrists to submit data to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Over time, the APA hopes that PsychPRO will become a research tool that will help clinicians better understand mental health conditions. Based on the data gathered in the registry, it is hoped that new treatments will also be developed to improve patient outcomes. The NNDC’s collaboration with the registry will help PsychPRO reach these research goals by providing research expertise to speed up important work and maximize the data that the registry creates.
